College and university campuses are major hubs of young people, which is why we do a lot of organizing on campuses. Not only are students impacted by the decisions of the elected officials where they live, but campuses often have their own unique political structures that impact them, too. Our campus organizing program is based on the fact that young people are often energized to make changes at their schools and strengthen existing relationships with their peers who are also seeking change, and they are intimately familiar with the workings of their schools. Our role is to offer the skills and resources they need to support their goals.
We work on campuses around the state to organize around issues unique to those schools. Some of our campuses include the University of Minnesota – Twin Cities, Hamline University, Augsburg University, St. Cloud State University, St. Olaf College, and Carleton College, where we have organized around lowering the cost of higher education and student loan debt, supporting tenants rights and off-campus housing, increasing COVID protections and procedures on campuses, and changing building names associated with white supremacists and racists.
