Housing Equity Now- St. Paul (HENS) – HENS is a coalition made up of community organizations, renters, and housing lawyers. These groups of people were vital in doing the groundwork and strategizing to help the Keep Saint Paul Home campaign win during the November 2021 election.
Keep St. Paul Home campaign – The Keep St. Paul Home campaign was the name of the work needed to win Rent Stabilization in Saint Paul. HENS was able to house and drive this work all the way through the election. HENS created the campaign name, logo, colors, and overall work plan to ensure this campaign won.
Rent control – As a policy, rent control gets rid of any and all rent increases. This type of policy can be found in New York, where some rentals have been the same price for over a decade now. Again, no rent increases occur with this policy.
Rent stabilization – Rent Stabilization still allows for rent increases to happen, but are limited to a certain percentage and how many times a year they happen is limited too. For our policy, we limited rent increases to happen once a year and only to 3% of an increase.
